April 2020
It’s certainly been a surreal few months as we adapt to a new ‘norm’ during the COVID-19 pandemic. In New Zealand where we are currently based, the Hospital Staff Solutions team have joined much of the population who are in isolation and working from home. For those front-line staff who continue to provide the country with much needed healthcare, goods and services we would like to acknowledge and thank you for your sacrifices and commitment during this time.
As is the case across the globe, demand for medical professionals will be at a premium. We are still working closely with a number of doctors from offshore who will be coming to New Zealand in the short to near-term future so we thought it timely to share an update from Immigration New Zealand relating to the Special Visa Status for Medical Professionals.
The key highlights being:
- Special visitor visas will allow work for offshore applicants requiring no medicals, no chest x-rays and no police certificates
- Once in the country they will be required to undertake new works visas and deal with any complexities in documents while they are here and working
This makes getting an initial visa an arguably more straight-forward process for a medical professional, even though there would be a requirement to complete much of the same documentation once in New Zealand. If you have been thinking about working and living in New Zealand and would like to speak with us directly, please get in touch anytime and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Stay safe.
